(Source: Thayer County, NE Marriage Records) ======================== The Belleville Telescope (Belleville, KS), Wednesday, October 19, 1961; pg. 2 BYRON NEWS Obituary Of Mrs. Fred Peters Mrs. Fred Peters was born December 25, 1873, to Hans Meyer and Engelnee Cordes in Westervesede, Hanover Germany and was named March. She was baptized January 1, 1874 in Scheesel Lutheran church Westervesede. Here she received her Christian education and was confirmed in 1888, she received her public education in the same town. On July 20, 1891 at the age of 17 she came to the Byron community for her sister had come earlier. She worked out for over two years, and on October 6, 1893 was united in marriage to Frederick Peters in St. Peters Lutheran church northwest of Byron to which church they belonged. They made their home three miles north of Byron where two daughters were born to them. At the age of 4 and 12 were both taken by diphtheria in the same week. After this two children a son and daughter were born to them. In 1904 they moved to Byron where they remained the rest of their lives. here they built the telephone exchange and she was the first operator. In 1907 they became Charter members of the St. Paul Lutheran church in Byron and she was the last living Charter member still a member of this congregation. During all these years she was a faithful member of the church and took an active part in the ladies organization until the last few months, where illness made this impossible. On September 25, 1961 she passed away quietly at the Reed hospital (sic) in Deshler. She reached the age of 87 years and 9 months, having suffered comparatively little and enjoyed a clear mind to the end. She was confident in her faith not fearing but looking forward to her death. She leaves to honor her memory a son Henry of Byron, a daughter Amanda, Mrs. E.A. Eitzmann of Byron, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Memorials given in her honor will benefit Concordia church childrens home in Omaha. Funeral service were held in St. Paul Lutheran church (sic) Byron, October 28, 1961 at 2:30 p.m. and was conducted by the Pastor Dennis D. Mueller. Interment followed in St. Paul Lutheran cemetery (sic), Byron.
