When he was but a year old his parents with their little family of two sons and one daughter began their journey to America. Piel Held at Bladen Frederick Piel was born in Germany, March 25, 1853, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leonard Shaw, near Bladen, Nebraska, January 22, 1932. When he was but a year old his parents with their little family of two sons and one daughter began their journey to America. The father died enroute and was buried at sea, the mother and children coming on to Chicago where they established their home. Mr. Piel came to Adams county, Nebraska, in 1874 and began farming near Blue Hill. On January 21, 1881, he was married to Fredericka Jahn, and to this union eleven children were born five of whom preceded him in death. He and his wife have lived most of their life since coming to Nebraska in or near Blue Hill and Bladen, with the exception of a few years spent at Pallisade, Nebraska. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife; one sister residing at Cedar Falls, Iowa; six children, Fred Piel, Thedford, Nebr.; Mrs. Louise Cole, Omaha, Nebr.; Frank Piel, Thedford, Nebr.; Mrs. Calvin Morey, Bladen, Nebr.; Carl Piel, Janesville, Ia.; Mrs. Rose Shaw, Bladen, Nebr.; thirty-five grand children; nine great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He attended the Lutheran church and was a member of the Modern Woodman lodge of America. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church, with Rev. H.C. Johnson, the pastor in charge.
