Description	:	Fredrick John Gemaehlich was born on March 16, 1923 to Fritz and Anna (Suchland) Gemaehlich in Burdett, Colorado. He passed away on July 20, 2011 at the Yuma Life Care Center in Yuma, Colorado, he was 88 years of age. Fred graduated in 1941 from Otis High School in Otis, Colorado. He was the only sibling out of eleven brothers and sisters to graduate from High School. Later he attended college at the Oxford University in England. Read More	Fredrick John Gemaehlich was born on March 16, 1923 to Fritz and Anna (Suchland) Gemaehlich in Burdett, Colorado. He passed away on July 20, 2011 at the Yuma Life Care Center in Yuma, Colorado, he was 88 years of age. Fred graduated in 1941 from Otis High School in Otis, Colorado. He was the only sibling out of eleven brothers and sisters to graduate from High School. Later he attended college at the Oxford University in England. Fred served his country in the Army from 1943 until 1946. He was stationed in France, Germany and England where he met and married Betsy Ann Pepper on September 23, 1944. While living in England their son, Michael was born and after returning to the states their daughter, Ida was born. Betsy passed away on June 8, 1983 and he later married Dorothy Mae Feikert on September 29, 1990. Dorothy passed away on May 2, 2008. Fred did a variety of professions throughout his life. He worked at a cattle ranch in McFadden, Wyoming and he held a defense job in Toole, Utah, both of these jobs were right out of High School. After he returned from the service, he farmed for Bob Anderson north of Haxtun, Colorado then moved to Otis, Colorado where he farmed on his own and for Roy Melendy. He moved into Otis, Colorado in 1959 and was the custodian for the high school for twenty six years, retiring in 1984. Fred moved to Yuma, Colorado in 1987 and worked part-time at Alco. Fred always had a smile even through all of his illnesses. He enjoyed food, golf, traveling and enjoyed building things. He enjoyed his family and couldn't wait for the reunions. He will be remembered for always being willing to go the extra mile in everything he did. Right before his passing, he was in Swedish Hospital and he thought he was going to have a stomach feeding tube inserted (later it was decided that the surgery could not be performed) but he only had one request, he wanted to sink his teeth into a good ole' Rocky Mountain Oyster. He had helped cook and serve many of them for other people to eat but he had never tasted one. Needless to say, the doctor did not think this was a very good idea and denied his request. So Fred never knew the taste of a Rocky Mountain Oyster unless heaven provides them, which is doubtful. Fred was an inspiration to his family and others about never giving up on yourself or life and enjoyed every minute to the fullest. In the last few days of Fred's life, he kept asking Ida what the date was which Ida didn't think too much about it. Then on the 19th he asked again the same question and she relayed that tomorrow would have been Betsy's birthday. What a celebration the two of them had in heaven to be together again after so many years. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Anna Gemaehlich; wife, Betsy; son, Michael; sisters, Barbara Klinzman, Margaret Muchow, Agnes Johnson, Alvina Dunker, Anna Steele, Emma Busing and Minnie Henning; brothers, William, Herman and Henry; wife, Dorothy; brothers-in-laws from England, Herbert Tinsley and John Wilson; sister-in-laws from England, Nancy Tinsley and Ida Wilson. He is survived by his daughter, Ida Mae Trautman and husband, Bob of Yuma, Colorado; grandsons, Gary Farmer of Bon Secour, Alabama; Vern Kessinger and wife, Joyce of Akron, Colorado; Shannon Trautman of Rocheport, Missouri; granddaughters, Teri Bosman and husband, Darren of Columbus, Mississippi and Angela Blair of Columbus, Mississippi; five great grandchildren; sister-in-law Daisy Gemaehlich of Sterling, Colorado along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral service was held on Monday, July 25, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Otis, Colorado with Pastor Phillip Hofinga officiating. Interment followed at the Otis Cemetery in Otis, Colorado. Memorials can be designated to Hospice of the Plains, PO Box 365, Wray, CO 80758. Baucke Funeral Home of Yuma directed the service.
