Read More	MINOT DAILY NEWS Thursday, 15 May 1997 Fritz Schwede 28 Jan. 1912 - 12 May 1997 Fritz Walter Schwede, 85, 3212 7th St. SW, Minot formerly of Donnybrook, died Monday, May 12, 1997 in a Minot medical center. He was born January 28, 1912, in Aurelia, to Frederick and Mary Schwede. He was raised and educated there and attended country school a half mile from his home. He then assisted on the farm. From 1934 to 1936 he traveled to Montana for the harvest, then Clayton, Idaho, where he worked at the Robinson, Bar Dude Ranch for three seasons. In the winter of 1938, he worked at the American Smelter in Salt Lake City. He then returned home and rented Beggs Farm which he farmed with his father. He married Myrtle Charnetzki, Oct. 8, 1940, in Wolf Point, Mont. He entered the Army March 28, 1942, and served with the 90th infantry Division as a heavy machine gunner. He was stationed in various places in the United States and spent 20 months in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe during World War II. He received the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Bronze Service Arrowhead, Good Conduct medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater medal and three overseas bars. He was discharged October 12, 1945. In April 1947 they moved to Donnybrook with his parents and farmed. He purchased the homestead in 1957. At the time of his death he still maintained a residence there. He semi-retired in the early 1980s, and moved into Minot in August 1994. He served for several years on the Ree Township Board. Survivors: wife; son, David of Minot; daughters, Fay Knudtson and Sharon Crider both of Donnybrook; four grandchildren; and four g great-grandchildren. ------------------------------------------------------ He was born on January 28, 1912, at Aurelia, ND, a son of Fredrick and Mary (Krueger) Schwede. Reared and educated in Aurelia, he attended a country school a half mile from his home. He helped on the farm cutting hay by horses and binder, making bundles and helped shock them. There were no cars or tractors then, all the work was done with horses. At one time there were 21 horses on the farm. In 1934 through 1936, he went to Montana for the harvest and then went to Clayton, ID, where he got a job at the Robinson Bar Dude Ranch, and worked there for three seasons. In the winter of 1938, he worked at the American Smelter in Salt Lake City, UT. He then returned home and rented the Beggs Farm, farming it with his father, except for the years when he was in the service. On October 8, 1940, in Wolf Point, MT, he married the former Myrtle Myra Charnetzki. After their marriage they lived with his parents until he entered the service. He entered the U. S. Army on March 28, 1942, and served with the 90th Infantry Division as a heavy machine gunner.
