Services were held in the Lewellen Methodist church on Sunday, February 26, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Brown officiating. Music was furnished by Kenneth Hutson, soloist and Dennis Hutson, organist. Services were held in the Lewellen Methodist church on Sunday, February 26, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Brown officiating. Music was furnished by Kenneth Hutson, soloist and Dennis Hutson, organist. Furnando Mardis, son of Samuel and Mattie Mardis, was born January 23, 1895 at Cozad and departed this life on February 23, 1967 at the age of 72 years and one month. When he was 13 he moved with his parents to Lewellen, where he has since made his home. On January 16, 1915 he was united in marriage to Ada A. Rentzsch at Oshkosh. To this union three daughters were born. They made their home in Lewellen where Mr. Mardis was engaged in construction work, mainly building. Mr. Mardis was preceded in death by one daughter, Hazel in September, 1942 and his wife in April, 1961 [editor: Apr. 15, 1958]. He is survived by two daughters, Irene Dietlein of Ellsworth and Sarah Stokey of Ogallala; three sisters, Mrs. Guy Roberts of Lewellen, Mrs. George Post Sr. of Bridgeport and Mrs. Kenneth McCormick of Lewellen; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many, many friends. Pallbearers were Duke McCormick, Niel Kleist, Cecil Cotton, Marvin Stokey, Marv Grace and Tom Emerson. Burial was in the Ash Hollow cemetery at Lewellen. The Holechek Funeral Home of Oshkosh was in charge of the arrangements.
