Description	:	Galen Glen Grummert, son of John and Frieda (Warneking) Grummert, was born May 6, 1930, on a farm near Superior, Nebraska. He passed away Monday, April 15, 2002, at his home in Superior at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 9 days. He was baptized in May of 1930 and confirmed in 1945 in Salem Lutheran Church, Superior. Galen attended Smryna Grade School and graduated from Superior High School. May 24, 1949, Galen married Mildred Kempkes in Mankato, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children, Daniel Lee, RoxAnne and Terry Lynn. He was drafted into the United States Marines, served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. Galen and Mildred lived in Phelps and Harlan Counties near Holdrege. He worked at Andy's Farm and Home Hatchery and at Becton-Dickenson Medical Supply. Then, they operated Grummert's Antiques for many years. They returned to Superior to make their home in 1991. Galen was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Superior. He also was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W., both of Superior. He was an avid collector of antique toys. Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepmother, Freda (Nunnenkamp) Grummert; his wife, Mildred, on July 27, 1992; and an infant brother. Survivors include two sons, Dan Grummert and his wife Linda of New Bern, North Carolina, and Terry Grummert of Deshler, Nebraska; one daughter, RoxAnne Peters and her husband Phillip of Denver, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Cory, Jared, Nolan, Collin, Sara, Lori and Terry Jr.; two brothers, Eldrick Grummert and his wife Elsie of Superior and Milvern Grummert and his wife Aileen of Glenvil, Nebraska; two stepsisters, Eva Nelson of Courtland, Kansas, and Wanda Rauert of Grand Island, Nebraska; and three stepbrothers, Roger Nunnenkamp of Hillsboro, Oregon, Wayne Nunnenkamp of Seattle, Washington, and Bill Nunnenkamp of Quartz Hill, California. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2002, at Salem Lutheran Church, Superior, with Pastor Dan Hays officiating. Music was "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" with Stephanie Thayer as soloist and Sonia Schmidt as organist. Interment was in Nelson Cemetery. Pallbearers were Glenn Platt, Craig Grummert, Cory Grummert, Phil Peters, Michael Grummert, Jerry Warneke, Dick LeBeau and Larry Feala.
