Description	:	John Henry Grummert, one of nine children of Ernst Henry and Lena Buesig Grummert, was born December 11, 1900, on a farm near Smyrna, Nebraska, and died June 18, 1982, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 7 days. Read More	John Henry Grummert, one of nine children of Ernst Henry and Lena Buesig Grummert, was born December 11, 1900, on a farm near Smyrna, Nebraska, and died June 18, 1982, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 7 days. He lived his entire life in the Superior area with the exception of the past 2 1/2 years that he resided at the Good Samaritan Village at Hastings. He attended rural school at Fairview District 48. John's baptism was December 26, 1900, being one of the first to be baptized after the organization of Salem Lutheran Church, and he was confirmed May 22, 1914, by Pastor G. Gundel, Sr. January 17, 1924, he was united in marriage to Frieda Warneking. To this union four sons were born. After her death in 1938, he married Freda Pollock Nunnenkamp September 8, 1948, who passed away in March 1981. John farmed as long as his health allowed. He served on the school board of District 72 for many years and was a dedicated worker at the church. In 1962 they moved to Superior where he spent much of his time helping anyone needing assistance. John was one of the neighbors of the Fairview community that received the Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor Award in 1955 and he was honored with a certificate from the State of Nebraska Committee on Aging for his outstanding contribution towards helping the elderly. He was a faithful contributor to many charities throughout his life. Besides his two wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; four brothers, Ernst Henry, Ernst William, Fred and Herman; three sisters, Minnie Schiermeyer, Lena Schiermeyer and Elsie Schiermeyer; and a stepson, Lloyd Nunnenkamp. He leaves to mourn his passing his three sons, Eldrick of Superior, Milvern of Glenvil and Galen of Holdrege; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Schiermeyer and Martha Schiermeyer both of Superior; two stepchildren, who made their home with him during their youth, Roger Nunnenkamp of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Mrs. Eva Adams of Courtland, Kansas. Other stepchildren surviving are Hollis Nunnenkamp of Hillisboro, Oregon, Mrs. Elmer (Wanda) Rauert of Grand Island, Glen Nunnenkamp of Portland, Oregon, Wayne Nunnenkamp of Seattle, Washington, and Bill Nunnenkamp of Lancaster, California; 18 step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, June 21, at 2 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, with Pastor David Miller officiating. "One Day At A Time" and "Old Rugged Cross" were sung by Alfred and Janell Hanson, with Lillian Christensen as organist. Interment was in Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Craig Grummert, Michael Grummert, Terry Grummert, Orville Grummert, Robert Schiermeyer and Kenneth Schiermeyer. Megrue-Price Funeral Home, Superior, was in charge of the arrangments.
