Description	:	Garnet Silvey, 89, of 801 Milton Street in Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Boone County Hospital in Boone early Thursday morning, August 25, 2011. He was born on December 27, 1921 in Barron County, Kentucky the son of Marshall B. and Etta May (Moore) Silvey. On June 10, 1949, he married Betty Thompson at the Baptist Church parsonage in Stratford. Garnet was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army in the South Pacific. Read More	Garnet Silvey, 89, of 801 Milton Street in Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Boone County Hospital in Boone early Thursday morning, August 25, 2011. He was born on December 27, 1921 in Barron County, Kentucky the son of Marshall B. and Etta May (Moore) Silvey. On June 10, 1949, he married Betty Thompson at the Baptist Church parsonage in Stratford. Garnet was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army in the South Pacific. He was very honored to have participated in the Honor Flight on May 7, 2011. In his earlier years Garnet enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. Garnet farmed in the Stratford area and lived in the country until 1984 when he then moved to town. He was an active member of the Stratford Baptist Church and the American Legion Fredrick Sonksen Post #576. His parents; a sister, Maureen Burdick; and 2 brothers, Marshall, Jr. and Jesse Silvey preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Betty of 62 years; 2 sisters Edith Sonksen and husband Weldon of Stratford and Bonnie Newgard and husband Rich of Laurens; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Monday morning, August 29th at 10:00 a.m. at the Stratford Baptist Church in Stratford with Rev. Mike Fendley officiating. Interment with military honors conducted by the American Legion Fredrick Sonksen Post #576 will be in the Oakwood Cemetery north of Stratford. Friends may call at the Stratford Baptist Church on Sunday, August 28th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and again Monday, August 29th from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the family.
