Description	:	Gary K. "Pete" Nielsen, one of three children of Peter E. Nielsen and Gerda (Block) Nielsen, was born on February 5, 1935, on a farm northwest of Superior, Nebraska. He grew up on the farm, was educated at the rural school near Abdal and graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1953. On February 18, 1961, he was married to Ilene Wullenwaber at the Bethel Lutheran Church near Abdal. All of Pete's life was spent near and in Superior where he was engaged in farming and livestock. The last few years Pete's cattle occupied his time. He was a loving father; he loved his sons, his grandchildren, and all children in the neighborhood were always welcome in his home. He was a member of the Superior Eagles and Elks Lodge and a member of the Salem Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffery Kay Nielsen, and his father. He is survived by his wife, Ilene of Superior; sons, Fred and his wife Sue of Burlington, Iowa, and Jay and his wife Pam of Superior; his mother, Gerda Nielsen of the Good Samaritan Center in Superior; two sisters, Phyllis Thayer and her husband Max of Republic, Kansas, and Marilyn Morehead and her husband Garold of Ord, Nebraska; six granddaughters, Heather, Kelly, Stephanie, Melissa, Samantha and Jacquelyn Nielsen. Pete passed away at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital on November 17, 1992, at the age of 57 years, 9 months, and 12 days Funeral services were held Thursday, November 19, 1992, at 11 a.m. from Salem Lutheran Church, rural Superior, NE, with Pastor Michael Osberg officiating. Music was provided by soloist Carol Shambaugh singing "In The Garden" and a congregational hymn of "How Great Thou Art" with Carlita Price as organist. Casketbearers were Tom Sorensen, Vic Pedersen, Jerry Harris, Richard Kottmeyer, Wylie Jensen, Larry Juergens, Jon Bruning and Gary Tordrup. Burial was in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery.
