Read More	STEAMBOAT ROCK RESIDENT TAKEN George Folkerts Succumbs Friday After Illness STEAMBOAT ROCK - George Folkerts, 70 years old, died Friday evening at his home here after an illness of about ten weeks. He was born April 6, 1861 at Logumer Variverk, Eastfriesland, Germany, and came to this country in 1884, settling near Steamboat Rock where he spent the remainder of his life. He became a member of the Steamboat Rock Baptist church on Dec. 28, 1890, and was active in church work throughout his life, filling positions of clerk and deacon. He was married in 1892 to Gepkea Hansen, who died in 1919. To this union was born 10 children, two of whom died in infancy. The remaining eight are: Hie, Rex, Grace, Harm, Kate, Anna, Elizabeth and Esther. Besides these the deceased leaves five step-children, and thirteen grandchildren. Mr. Folkerts had been in poor health for several years, and has been bedfast for the past ten weeks. Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. C. Swyter of George, a close friend, and Rev. A.G. Lang of Parkersburg, former pastor of the Steamboat Rock Baptist church. He was buried in the family plot in Steamboat Rock cemetery. Lang of Parkersburg, Mr. and Mrs. Hie Berends of Brewster, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ravis of Tracy, Minn., Miss Anna Folkerts, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Feedick and sons, Mr. Heinie Folkerts of Buffalo Center, Mrs. Rena Van Low and daughter Mable of Cedar Falls, Mr. Louis Miller and Mattie Miller of Victor, John Hartman, Mr. and Mrs. Harm Hartman and Misses Hannah and Anna Hartman of Buffalo Center, Mr. and Mrs. Will Dahlman of Parkersburg, Dick Eilers, Ed Karsjens ad Ben Eilers of Fort Dodge, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Switzer of Eldora.
