Description	:	Gena was born on 26 Apr 1896 at Brinsmade, ND the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Hjelden who came from Gunbrandalen, Norway. Her parents came from Norway to America in the late 1800's. She married Harold Hanson at Maddock in Dec of 1915. The couple lived near Flora, ND until they moved to Rock Township in 1921. In 1922 they moved to Minnewaukan area. In 1929 they returned to Rock township to live. In 1947 they moved to Sheyenne. The couple had 12 children: Ernest Hanson of Vallejo, CA; Harlan Hanson of Napa, CA; Bloyd Hanson of Honolulu, HI; Vernon Hanson Sheyenne, ND; Duane Hanson of Cottage Grove, OR; Gladys Hanson Erickson of Sheyenne; Mavis Hanson Bohe of Fort Rice, ND; Harold Hanson Jr.; Lavern Hanson Erickson of Moorhead, MN; Norman Hanson of St. Paul, MN; Bernadine Hanson Kennedy of Prescott, AZ; and Clark Hanson of Fargo, ND. Shortly before World War Two, Bloyd Hanson had been employed on Wake Island for a year and Ernest Hanson came to Wake Island to work also. The ship that brought Ernest to Wake Island was set to take Bloyd back to the United States. Instead the Japanese invaded both Hawaii and Wake Island and Ernest was captured and taken prisoner. Ernest spent the entire war in a prisoner of war camp. Bloyd returned to Hawaii and worked in construction and later joining the Army and was stationed in Hawaii as an ambulance driver. Norman served a period of time in the armed services during peacetime and Clark was in the Army for 8 years serving in Vietnam, Germany and Hawaii.
