Description	:	OBITUARY Melvin Hjelden, a lifelong Benson County resident, died Sunday, Nov 6 at St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo. His funeral will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan and Interment will be in the West IMinnewaukan Free Church Cemetery. He was born Aug. 25, 1908 in North Viking Twsp to Erick and Jorgine Sabo Hjelden. He was reared and educated in the rural Maddock area where he worked on farms before his marriage to Olga Ness on July 7, 1934 in Minnewaukan. He was born Aug. 25, 1908 in North Viking Twsp to Erick and Jorgine Sabo Hjelden. He was reared and educated in the rural Maddock area where he worked on farms before his marriage to Olga Ness on July 7, 1934 in Minnewaukan. Following their marriage, the couple lived with his family for a brief time before moving to a farmstead in Eldon Twsp (Benson Co) . In 1940 they purchased that farm and remained there until their retirement into Minnewaukan in 1973. He was a longtime member of the West Minnewaukan Free Lutheran Church and more recently the Stony Lake Lutheran Church, both of rural Minnewaukan. Melvin had served as a board member for both church councils.
