Survivors include her husband Clayton Mejie of Libby; sons Michael C. Wagner and his wife, Sandy, and John F. Wagner and his wife, Sandy, all of Libby; brothers Leon Doubek of Watsonville, Calif., and Ronald and Donald Doubek, both of Libby; a sister, Annie Pescatore of Libby; grandchildren Michael Wagner and his wife Linda, Debbie Tangen and her husband Wes, Jon Michael Wagner, and Bergetta Ellen Fortenberry and her husband Rob; and great-grandchildren Christopher and Brian Wagner, Kimberly and Tyler Tangen and Nicholas and Kelsey Fortenberry. Jennie was born July 4, 1917, to Helen (Marcinkowski) and Bartolome "Bart" Doubek, in Havre. The oldest of 11 children, Jennie attended a small country school near Turner and Turner High School. Always an excellent student, she missed graduation by two months when she withdrew from school to help at home with her newly born twin brothers. Her days were then filled helping with the family farming operations and taking care of her mother and brothers. She willingly assumed the many daily tasks necessary to keep the family going during this difficult time. She became an excellent cook, housekeeper and dedicated caregiver. It was on the "Big Flat" that she met and fell in love with Charles Michael Wagner, a handsome young mechanic from Illinois. They were married in 1937 and spent their honeymoon at a ranch north of Libby before returning to the east side of Montana. In 1948, Jennie and Charlie moved to the Worland and Eureka areas with their two small sons, Michael and John. The following year, they moved to Libby. Charlie was employed by W.R. Grace and Co., and Jennie as a clerk at C&H Market. During this time, several of her brothers and sisters, as well as her mother, also settled in Libby. As always, Jennie was always there to help with any family crisis, whether it be her mother's failing health or her sister's bout with TB. In 1959, Charlie's health began to fail, and he died in October of 1961. Jennie continued to live in Libby and work at the grocery store until moving to Harlem in 1968. After returning to the flatlands, she went to work at Safeway and eventually settled into a bookkeeping position at Harlem Plumbing Shop. On weekends and holidays, she would drive to the Clayton Irwin ranch near Hogeland and assist them with farming operations and take care of them as their health declined. In 1969, she retired from the plumbing shop and moved to the Irwin ranch to assume the role of fulltime caregiver. In her early retirement years, she enjoyed weekly bowling, reading a good book on cold winter nights, playing cards, and cooking and canning for all who came to visit. She loved to help Irwin's nephew Clayton Mejie with ranching operations, whether it be driving grain truck or bringing a newborn Angus calf into the house to keep it warm for the first few hours of life. In 1990, Clayton sold the ranch and he and Jennie moved to Libby to be close to family and friends and to love and spoil four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Jennie remained fiercely independent in her own home, cooking the daily meals, until suffering a stroke and entering the Libby Care Center in November of 2000. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by sisters Dorthe Noble and Betty Doubek; and brothers Velven, Karel, Paul and Clayton Doubek.
