Description	:	Georganna "Jan" Marie (Watkins) Swanson, was born to Bernard and Jeanne (Hotchkiss) Watkins on Nov. 3, 1945, in Indianapolis, Ind. Jan passed away in her home from cancer o July 6, 2010, at the age of 64 years, seven months and four days. She was baptized and confirmed at Central Park Congregational Church in Omaha. Jan graduated from Oakland High School in Oakland in 1963. After graduation she attended Wayne State College and later Creighton University. Jan and Jack Arlin Swanson, were united in marriage on Oct. 17, 1970. This union was blessed with four children, James Walter Arlin Swanson, Jason Brooks Swanson, Jack Arlin Swanson, Jr., and Jeanne Leigh Kuhlmann. They made their home in Omaha until 1994 when they moved to Chester and finally to Mankato, Kan., in 2006. Jan was a very active member of the church throughout the years. She was a Sunday School teacher, a bible school superintendent and her most recent act of serving was volunteering as the secretary for the ELCA. Jan loved spending time with her husband, she enjoyed sitting in the passenger seat of their semi while they toured the country side. After they stopped driving trucks they would spent their time doing some of their favorite things together. You could often find them at their favorite fishing hole or sitting on the front porch enjoying the evening breeze watching their dogs play. Jan loved being Jack's wife. You can imagine, as an only child, how adored and loved Jan was by her mother and father. She was their pride and joy. As a child Jan loved to go for walks with her dad and baking with her mom. She loved to serenade her mother and father with her guitar that she was so proud of. As an adult nothing changed. She still loved spending time her mother and father. Jan enjoyed helping her father with rose bushes and Jan and her mother shared a special love for embroidery. Jan loved to make homemade gifts and everyone loved to get them. Her children meant the world to her and she meant the world to her children. She taught them right from wrong, to respect other people and to love one another. The most important thing that Jan taught her children was "who God was." Some of the children's fondest memories are that Jan loved to watch her children play video games, late nights at Taco John's, dollar movies, riding in the semi, paddle boating, riding the city bus, library trips, sitting up late nights just to talk, playing cards, teaching her son, Jack, how to drive and the wonderful bread she made. The list goes on and on, with a mom like Jan all you have are wonderful memories. She would always put everyone else before herself. She was an amazing wife, daughter and mother. Later in life Jan was blessed with seven grandchildren, Ashley DeAnne, Sean Michael Swanson, children of James and Amber Swanson; Cammy Nichole, daughter of Jack Swanson; and Calvin Dean, Michael Earl, Hannah Marie Collins and Loette Christine Brook Swanson, children of Jeanne and Justin Kuhlmann. She loved having the grandchildren come down and stay with her in the summer. They were always so happy when it was time to come and see Grandma Jan. How they loved when she took them to Sunday School and church with her. You had never seen a more proud grandma. She is preceded in death by her father, Bernard Watkins; son, Jason Brooks Swanson; father-in-law, Walter Alfred Swanson and mother-in-law, Loetta May Bowman. She is survived by her husband, Jack Arlin Swanson, Sr., of Mankato, Kan.; mother, Jeanne Marie Watkins, of Byron; sons, Jack Swanson; daughter Jeanne Leigh (Justin) Kuhlmann of Chester; seven grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Following Jan's wishes her body was donated to medical science. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 17, at 1 p.m., at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mankato, Kan.
