George was born January 29, 1924 in McFarland, KS the son of Charles and Rose (Kugler) Meinholdt. He graduated from Alma High School in 1943. George was born January 29, 1924 in McFarland, KS the son of Charles and Rose (Kugler) Meinholdt. He graduated from Alma High School in 1943. He served his country in the US Army for 5 years and for 17 months in the 387th Engineer Combat Battalion in Korea. He was a member of the National Association of Power Engineers and the Kansas Association of Power Engineers and was their President in the 1970's. George was an employee for the state of Kansas for over 30 years. He worked at the Kansas Reception and Diagnostic Center and the Kansas Neurological Institute. He was the chief engineer for Topeka State Hospital and was assistant director of facilities and operations at Emporia State University and the University of Kansas. He retired from KU in 1986. He was married to Helen L. (Morgan) on August 11, 1951 in Alma, KS. She preceded him in death April 8, 2010. Survivors include four daughters, Joyce Overeem and husband, Michael, The Dalles, OR, Connie Meinholdt, Big Rapids, MI, Deborah Meinholdt and husband, Paul Rowe, Alexandria, VA, Sherry Meinholdt, Lawrence; three grandchildren, Emily and Katie Rowe and Ala Wyrick; one great grandchild, Gavin Taylor; two brothers, Lewis Meinholdt, Bethany, MO, and Frank Meinholdt, Emporia, KS. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther, Helen, and Josephine and two brothers, Robert and Leo. The family suggested memorials in his name to the American Cancer Society or to the National Parkinson Foundation, which were sent in care of the mortuary.
