After an illness of over a year and a half with cancer of the stomach, George B. Kerr, a resident of this locality for many years, died at his home four miles south of Albion, aged 57 years. Mr. Kerr was born at Millsboro, Pa., August 27, 1855. He lived there with his parents until March, 1861, when the family moved to Salem, Ia., where he grew to manhood, residing there nearly twenty years. On March 10, 1880, the family arrived in Platte County and located north of Monroe on the old family homestead, and this locality was his home for twenty-two years when he went to Albion. April 30, 1891, he was married to Nancy B. Godfrey who with three sons, James, Clyde and Hanson, survive him. In 1892 he moved on the farm four miles south of Albion, which has since been his home. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, having affiliated with the Monroe camp in 1898. Besides his immediate family he leaves his mother, Mrs. Deborah Kerr, three brothers, Owen and John Kerr of Fairfax, S. D., and Chas. Kerr of Monroe, and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Gillan of Monteer, Mo., and Mrs. Mary Pickard of Chicago. He was brought to Monroe for burial and funeral services were held Tuesday morning from the home of Mr. Watts and the Congregational church, being conducted by Rev. Starr and interment was in the New Hope cemetery. The Modern Woodmen, besides being represented as pall bearers, assisted in conducting the services.
