Description	:	Delphos Republican October 21, 1937 George Benton Adkinson, son of Lemuel and Hannah Adkinson, was born December 6th, 1862, in Green County, Pa., and passed away at his home October 14th, 1947, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and seven days. He came to Kansas in March, 1877, at the age of 15 years, where he assisted his father with farming on the homestead in Lyon township, three and one-half miles north and one mile west of Bethel Church. Read More	Delphos Republican October 21, 1937 George Benton Adkinson, son of Lemuel and Hannah Adkinson, was born December 6th, 1862, in Green County, Pa., and passed away at his home October 14th, 1947, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and seven days. He came to Kansas in March, 1877, at the age of 15 years, where he assisted his father with farming on the homestead in Lyon township, three and one-half miles north and one mile west of Bethel Church. When a young man, he took a homestead near Bird City in Cheyenne County, and there married Rosa Hunt, May 24th, 1890. To this union was born one daughter, Mable Jean. They farmed in the west several years, enduring the hardships of early day pioneers, and there the wife died. He then returned to this vicinity, where he continued to farm, and on November 26th, 1896, was united in marriage to Venus Austin. To this union one daughter and one son were born, both dying in infancy. Over thirty years ago, he bought and built the present home where he spent the remainder of his life. After many weeks of patient suffering, during which time everything his loving family and friends could do, was done for his comfort, he passed away Thursday morning, October 14th. He leaves to mourn his going, the wife, one daughter, Mable McGinley, of Mona, West Virginia, seven grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren, three sisters, Mary Eakins of Concordia, May Courtney of Delphos, Keziah Nelson of Salina; a nephew, Orval Senters, of Jamestown, who was reared in the home as a son; several other nephews and nieces, and many friends. The services were held at the Bethel Church, Saturday afternoon at 2:30, by Rev. McClellan of Delphos, and music by the male quartet of the Glasco M.E. Church, composed of Bill Pilcher, Lester Pilcher, Cool Blake, with Mrs. O.L. Norton accompanist. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.
