Description	:	George Elmer was one of ten children born to John and Lizzie (Lemke) Himmelberg on a farm near Lawrence, Nebraska, in Webster County on December 30, 1910. George passed away at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 17 days on June 16, 1988, doing what he enjoyed most, helping his son Ken harvest the wheat. George attended rural and St. Stephens Schools and was a lifetime resident of the Lawrence and Nelson communities. He was a 54 year member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson and served as a trustee. He was a past board member of Farmers Union Elevator in Nelson and after leaving the farm he worked at the Farmers Union Elevator, Nuckolls County Courthouse and Himmelberg Service in Nelson. He enjoyed playing cards with his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jacob in infancy, John P. and Henry; and two sisters, Ann Himmelberg and Mary Kitten. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 56 years, Hilda; his children, Mrs. Clyde (Joan) Gleason of Salida, Colorado, Mrs. James (Charleen) Gleason of Hastings, Nebraska, Mrs. Howard (Dolores) Schutte of Hastings, Ken Himmelberg of Lawrence, Nebraska, Ron Himmelberg of Rio Hondo, Texas, Marty Himmelberg of Arlington, Texas, Mrs. Marvin (Marietta) Smidt of Superior, Nebraska, Mrs. Allen (Virginia) Bodenhamer of Olympia, Washington, and Mike Himmelberg of Fairborn, Ohio; two sisters, Adeline Schumm of Blue Hill, Nebraska, and Mrs. Roy (Dorothy) Alber of Hastings; two brothers, Mark and Norbert Himmelberg of Lawrence, Nebraska; 35 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday, June 18, 1988, at 10:30 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence, Nebraska, with Father Frank Machovec officiating. Commentator was Jerome Mazour. Acolyte was Edmund Kucera. Altar boys were grandsons, Todd Smidt, Ryan Smidt, Phillip Schutte and Todd Himmelberg. Congregations songs of "Amazing Grace," "Here I Am Lord," "Song of St. Francis" and "Lord's Prayer" with Marcia Drudik as organist and accompanist and Howard Schutte as cantor. Casketbearers were grandson Tim Gleason, Tom Gleason, Curt Gleason, Brad Schutte, Kevin Himmelberg, and Brent Smidt. Honorary pallbearers were: Ralph Meyer, Floyd Meyer, John Haidsiak, Gerald Whiteley, Glenn Oltmans, Joe Mazour, Gordon Sheets, Arnold Schroer, C.E. Wehrman, Sr., Jim Mazour, Charles Holms and Clarence Jurgensmeier. A rosary service was held Sunday, June 19, 1988, at 8:00 p.m. from the Klawitter-Price Funeral Home in Nelson, Nebraska. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery near Lawrence, Nebraska. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
