George Henry Quinn, Jr., 87 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. George was born April 25, 1926 on the family farm south of Oxford in Furnas County, Nebraska, the youngest of six children born to George Henry Quinn Sr. and Vesta Bell (Ziebell) Quinn. He received his primary education from a rural school in Furnas County and graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1943. Following his education, George was employed by Brodahl's Ford in Oxford as a mechanic for several years. He was then employed by Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company as a welder. In the years to come, George began a long career in the Plumbing and Electric business, and established Quinn Electric and Plumbing which he owned and operated from 1964 until his retirement. George was united in marriage to Carol Ann Hosier on December 22, 1949 at Wray, Colorado and to this union four children were born: Debra, Kelda, Joni and George III. The couple celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2009. In August of 2010, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann. George had a knack of fixing and building anything, loved to play the accordion, and enjoyed many years playing in the family band, The Quinn Orchestra, in his younger years. He enjoyed listening and dancing to Polka Music. He was very active with the South Platte Chamber of Commerce, serving as past-president. He also looked forward to being involved with the Oxford Alumni Association, where he also served as President and loved visiting with friends at the reunions. He was active in the Oxford Gun Club, was involved in pool league for many years, and most of all George loved spending time with friends. A big part of George's life was when he purchased his brand new 1953 Ford Crestline Convertible, which brought him great joy throughout the years taking it to shows and parades. Besides his wife, Carol Ann; he was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Eugene Quinn, Everett Quinn and his wife, Lucille, John Quinn, and Howard Quinn; one sister, Hazel Shay and her husband, Eddy; sisters-in-law: Joyce Jodeman and her husband, Dean Roberts, Patty Johnson and her husband, LeRoy; and brother-in-law, Roger Sparks. He leaves to mourn his passing; his three daughters: Debby Sindt and her husband, Rex of Holdrege, Kelda Fischer and her husband, K.J. of Lexington, Nebraska and Joni Brooks and her husband, Bruce of Kearney; one son, George Quinn III and his wife, Debora of Kearney; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Maxine Quinn of Grand Island, Nebraska, Ruth Quinn of Alma, Nebraska and Ronna Sparks of Franktown, Colorado; brothers-in-law: Steve Hosier and his wife, Irene of Oxford, and Henry Jodeman of Aurora, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
