Description	:	George H. Rops, 92 of Lennox left his earthly home on April 2, 2013. He was born to Rev. John J and Marie (Thoeni) Rops in Hermann, MO on August 5, 1920. His father's pastorate took him to the parsonage of Turner County First Presbyterian Church of rural Davis. There George attended his first eight years of school at Middleton District 23. A favorite pastime was trapping skunks with his good friend Anton Oltmanns. He began farming at a young age with his brother, John. George married Wava J. Buus at her parental home in Lennox on March 21, 1945.... Read More	George H. Rops, 92 of Lennox left his earthly home on April 2, 2013. He was born to Rev. John J and Marie (Thoeni) Rops in Hermann, MO on August 5, 1920. His father's pastorate took him to the parsonage of Turner County First Presbyterian Church of rural Davis. There George attended his first eight years of school at Middleton District 23. A favorite pastime was trapping skunks with his good friend Anton Oltmanns. He began farming at a young age with his brother, John. George married Wava J. Buus at her parental home in Lennox on March 21, 1945. The couple lived on two farms south of Lennox before moving to their own farm at the northwest edge of Lennox in 1949. They lived there until they retired and moved into Lennox in 1985. Wava died on October 2, 2009, ending a marriage of 64 years. George farmed his entire life, including the harvest of 2012. He was a favorite bus driver for many as he drove bus for the Lennox School District for over 35 years. He also served as treasurer for Perry Township for many years. An active member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, George served as elder, deacon, Sunday School superintendent and member of two building committees. He was a volunteer for senior citizens and frequently visited residents of the Lennox Good Samaritan Center. George enjoyed the fellowship of friends at the Lennox Senior Citizens and about town. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, brother John Rops, sisters: Margaretta Bossman, Ruth Buus, Menna Buus and son-in-law Verlyn Schaefer. Thankful for having shared his life are his seven children: Alan (Gloria) Rops, Lennox; Cynthia (David) Sheppard, Egan; Emily Schaefer, Wichita, KS, Beverly (Tom) Anderson, Chagrin Falls, OH; Karen (Leon) Weeldreyer, Lennox; Eric Rops, Lennox and Bradley (Kristi) Rops, Davis; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and sister Alice Kuper, Davis.: Graveside services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6 at the Lennox Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6 at the Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. The Lennox Independent - Apr 2013
