Menna Grace Rops was born at Rock Rapids, Iowa on February 11, 1923, the daughter of Rev. John J. and Marie (Thoeni) Rops. As an infant she moved with her family to Turner County, S.D. where she attended District 923 Rural School and grew up. On April 9, 1941, she was united in marriage to George G. Buus at her parental home, officiated by her father, Rev. John J. Rops. Following their marriage they farmed in the Davis area and in 1958 moved to the family farm southwest of Lennox. In 1984 they retired from farming and moved into Lennox. "Min" was employed at Ardell's Salad Shack for many years. It gave her such great joy to work at The Home Place, Marlys's café in Parker for the past seven years. "Min" was an active and faithful member of Turner Co. First Presbyterian Church, rural Davis, where she had taught Sunday School for many years. She was a 4-H leader for several years. "Min" loved cooking, baking, quilting and canning and brought home many purple ribbons from the Turner Co. Fair. She also was a 30 year charter member of the Country Gals Craft Show. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George, on June 24, 2003; one brother, John E. Rops, one sister, Margaretta Bossman; her brothers-in-law: Arnold Bossman, Harm Buus and Alfred Kuper. Grateful for having shared her life are her six children and their spouses: Dianne and H.P. Nordmann of Chancellor, Anita and Lynn Oltmanns of Davis, Lela and Glenn Davis of Parker, Wendell and Susan Buus of Lennox, Marlys and James Davis of Parker and Charles and Elaine Buus of Lennox; 21 grandchildren: Lisa (Rick) Norris, Todd (Coral) Nordmann, Amie (Tim) Watson, Jill (Scott) Dangel, Joel (Heather) Oltmanns, Josh (Stacy) Oltmanns, Janel Oltmanns, Daniel (Angelina) Davis, Darren (Missy) Davis, Melaine Davis, Melissa (Troy) Patten, Charity (Wade) Helleson, Angela (Cody) Roth, Nicholas (Dana) Buus, Travis (Kristin) Davis, Lanta Davis, Toby Davis, Harm Tucker Buus, George Colton Buus, Amanda Buus, and Charles Shelby Buus; nineteen great-grandchildren: Shay and Kyja Min Norris, Denver and Samara Nordmann, Thayme and H. Walker Watson, Marcus and Brian Dangel, Chase and Madeline Oltmanns, Sadie and Eliza Oltmanns, Alexandria and Connor Davis, Cadence and Bridge Helleson, Bryten and Brinley Roth and Emersyn Davis; two step- great-grandchildren: Chelsae and Chad; one brother: George (Wava) Rops of Lennox; two sisters: Ruth Buus and Alice Kuper, both of Davis; sister-in-law: Anna Rops of Lennox; plus many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
