Rev. Seybold officiated and Rev. Lentz played the wedding march. Maria Hoops, maid of honor, led the bridal group. She wore a frock of green georgette trimmed with lace and carried an arm bouquet of carnations. Lola Hoops and Vivian Renz, flower girls, wore dresses of yellow voile. They carried a basket of sweet peas. The bride was attired in a gown of white crepe back satin trimmed with lace and beads. Her veil was caught up by a wreath made of diamond-shaped squares trimmed with waxed flowers and rhinestones. Her bouquet consisted of roses carnations, sweet peas and baby's breath. The groom wore a dark blue serge suit. Ida Kettelhut, bridesmaid, wore a frock of all-over lace. Fred Hoops was best man. A reception was given at the bride's home to about 50 relatives. They received many useful and beautiful gifts. They will make their home on a farm southeast of Byron. ======================== The Belleville Telescope (Belleville, KS), Thursday, August 29, 1974 The Memorial Service for George Kettelhut was held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, rural Byron, Pastor A.L. Meyer officiating, Friday, August 23. George Johann Kettelhut was born to Robert W.L. Kettelhut and Eda Nee Wenzel on October 18. 1905 near Bennet, Neb. He was baptized on January 21, 1906 through the Lutheran pastor, Rev. Ranz Mueller. About 1909 the family moved to a farm near Deshler, Neb. He confirmed his faith on May 9, 1920 in St. John Lutheran Church near Byron. On August 19, 1974 he died in a camper truck accident south of Miles City, Montana at the age of 68 years, 10 months and one day. He was united in marriage to Anna E. M. Hoops on Feb. 19, 1930 at St. Peter Lutheran Church of rural Byron by Pastor C. Seybold. They started their married life on a farm in Kansas south of Byron. In 1942 they moved to a farm in Nebraska northwest of Byron, retiring in Byron in 1971. To this union were born five children: Verla (Mrs. Lavern Heitmann) of Hardy, Leora (Mrs. Verdell Freitag) of Byron, Willis of Deshler, Joanne (Mrs. Willis Gass) of San Angelo, Texas, and Jeannette (Mrs. Richard Mohrman) of Byron. In addition to his wife and five children, he is survived by 17 grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister, Minnie Powers, brother, Edward, and grandson, Michael Heitmann. Surviving are his brothers, Albert of Hardy, Louis of San Jose, Calif., Walter (who died about 3 hours after the service) of Fairbury, and Leonard of Hastings; four sisters, Clara Abelbeck of Hebron, Emma Renz of Byron, Dora Deeke of Hubbell and Ida Shutte of Colorado Springs, Colo. Mr. Kettelhut was an active Brotherhood member, including immediate past president of the South Central Nebraska Conference Brotherhood, past member of the Blue Valley Lutheran Home Board, Church Council member several times including immediate past president of the congregation, Lions Club member and officer, board member of the Co-op Credit Assoc., member of the Centennial Players and active in other community affairs.
