Description	:	Enlisted in the 153rd Illinois Volunteers, Company D, in February 1865 with his brother, John G. Dittmar. They listed their residence as Woodbine, Jo Daviess County, IL a the time of their enlistment. He later became the first merchant in Schapville, Illinois and sold the business to his brother, John, in 1877 when he moved to Ft. Dodge, Iowa with his wife Louisa and their family. First wife was Matilda Grebner. She died in October 1871 and is buried in Schapville with the rest of her Grebner family. Second wife was Louisa Sass, whom he married in... She died in Iowa but is buried in Schapville. After moving to Kansas for health reasons in 1885 he married his third wife, Paulina Krause, who was born in Berlin, Germany. Paulina was a widow when he met her in Clay Center. Her first husband's name was Schneider, but they had no children. She came to America from Berlin when she was 17, the only member of her family to emigrate. He lived in Five Creeks, Clay County, Kansas in the 1905 and 1920 Censuses. Casper and Paulina lived in Idana Kansas where he was a cobbler and village postmaster.
