Description	:	George Henning, 51-year old farmer east of Crete, was killed early Wednesday evening when he was struck by a car as he attempted to cross the road near his home. Henning was struck by the car driven by Delbert Reiss, 15-year-old high school student, who was on his way to Crete to practice football. Reiss has a school permit for driving. Read More	George Henning, 51-year old farmer east of Crete, was killed early Wednesday evening when he was struck by a car as he attempted to cross the road near his home. Henning was struck by the car driven by Delbert Reiss, 15-year-old high school student, who was on his way to Crete to practice football. Reiss has a school permit for driving. Frank Steinacher, Lancaster county deputy sheriff, who investigated the fatal accident, said that Henning lived about 20 minutes after being struck by the car. He said that Henning has been out chasing a hog across the road when the accident occurred. According to Steinacher, Henning and his wife were on the east side of the road chasing the hog when he spotted the car coming down the road. He warned his wife to stay off the road, but he started across. Steinacher said Henning was struck in about the middle of the road but that his body landed about three feet from the shoulder. His body landed about 30 feet from the point of impact, according to the deputy sheriff. The accident occurred at about 7:20 Wednesday evening. After he was struck by the car Henning asked his wife and the driver to turn him over. Later when he regained consciousness, he asked them what happened. Mrs. Henning ran to the house and called Dr. Huber and Rev. Donald Heck. Henning died shortly after they arrived. Henning received a fractured skull, scalp wounds, a broken neck, chest injuries, a fractured left arm, and compound fracture of the left leg, Deputy Sheriff Steinacher said. Steinacher said that the youthful driver would be questioned by the Lancaster County attorney this morning. He said he did not know if any charges would be filed. Besides his wife, Henning is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Melvin Mundt of near Kramer; one son, Lester of Crete, and many other relatives. ************** Funeral services for George L. Henning, who was killed in an auto mishap last week, were held at the Kramer Lutheran Church Saturday. Born August 2, 1899 in Lancaster County on the farm where his brother, Arthur, now lives, he had been a resident of this area during his entire lifetime. He died September 13 at the age of 51 years. He was baptized in St. John's Lutheran Church at Kramer by the Rev. Lohr and confirmed in 1913 by Rev. Schwartz. He had been a member of the church all his life. On August 26, 1924 he was united in marriage with Miss Alma Mueller of Bennett. They resided on the Harry Henning farm until 1928, when they moved to their present home. Surviving are his wife, Alma; one daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Mundt of Crete; one son, Lester, living at home; two grandchildren; two brothers, William and Arthur, both of Crete; and two sisters, Mrs. I.G. Prucha of Crete and Mrs. Godfrey Bauer of Syracuse. His parents preceded him in death. Burial was at the Lutheran cemetery at Kramer.
