[1885-1946] 7--James "Jim" Wesley [1889-1964] 8--Catherine "Kate" Margaret [1893-1984] GEORGE McDUFFIE McDANIEL Obituary: The Dillon Herald May 1947 George McDaniel Dies Saturday, Aged 94 Mr. George McDaniel, 94, died at the home of his son, Thomas B. McDaniel in Dillon Saturday afternoon after a declining illness. One of the Dillon County's oldest residents, he was born and reared in Mt. Calvary section. When he became a young man he began farming operations there and gradually built up his holdings until he was quite a substantial farmer. He was a member of Kentyre Presbyterian Church, and while his health permitted, was a faithful attendant. He was a son of the late Martha Edwards and James A. McDaniel. He was married to the former Minerva McKeller who preceded him to the grave in 1927. Besides his son Thomas, he is survived by two other sons, Gilbert C. McDaniel of Mullins and Jim McDaniel of Lake View; a daughter, Mrs. Katie Christenburg of Hamer, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the graveside in McDuffie cemetery, with Rev. W.B. Boyle in charge. Interment was in the cemetery there. (NOTE) The obituary is incorrect in the part that George was born and reared in the Mt. Calvary section. It was the Kentyre community. George married Minerva and several years later purchased a large farm in the Mt. Calvary section; that was when he moved from Kentyre community to the Mt. Calvary section. Several years later in 1898, George moved his family back to Kentyre Community. On October 11, 1887 George deeded two acres of land, one acre to build Mount Calvary Baptist Church and one acre to build Mount Calvary School. George at the age of 74 went to a fiddler's convention in Fayetteville, North Carolina and took top honors. George was a member of the Kentyre Presbyterian Church, but when they moved to the Mount Calvary area he joined the Baptist Church. Years later when they moved back to the Kentyre area, he rejoined the Kentyre Presbyterian. George died from acute dilation of the heart.
