Aug 17, 1953 - Carroll Daily Times - George O'Donnell, 82, former state representative, died at his home, 215 North Carroll Street, at 5:15 a.m. Monday. He had been ill the past year and bedfast the last four weeks. Funeral services will be Wednesday at St Joseph's church. Burial will be in the Carroll catholic cemetery. Mr. O'Donnell, who was born Sept 28, 1870 in Freeport, Illinois, had lived in Carroll county since he was five years old. He came here in 1875 with his parents, John and Mary O'Donnell, who settled on a farm near Maple River. As a young man he entered employment in the bridge and building department of the Chicago & North Western Railroad company. He continued his work for 20 years. Since moving into Carroll from the farm, he has lived in the present home with his sister, Miss Nell O'Donnell. Surviving with his sister are two brothers: T.B. O'Donnell of Anthon and B.J. O'Donnell of Sioux City. His parents, two sisters and five brothers preceded him in death. Mr. O'Donnell, a member of St. Joseph's parish, had served as treasurer of the church for the last 21 years. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society of the parish. He was a charter member of Charles Carroll Council, Knights of Columbus. If he had lived until August 30 he would have been a 50 year member of the organization. A lifelong Democrat, he had represented Carroll County in the state legislature two terms, from 1929 to 1933. He had also held numerous county offices in the Democratic party.
