Contributor: #46985513 - Obituary of Miss Mary O'Donnell - Miss Mary O'Donnell, whose death was mentioned in the last issue of the Carroll Times, was born in Stephenson county, Ill., August 16, 1859. She came with her parents to Iowa in 1875 locating on the farm near Maple River, at which place she made her home when taken sick. She followed dressmaking in Carroll for nineteen years. After that she kept house for her brothers until twelve years ago, when she returned to the old homestead at Maple River. On June 16 she was taken seriously sick and was brought to the home of her mother, Mrs. Mary O'Donnell, on North Carroll street. All of Carroll's best doctors were consulted, but to no avail, and after two weeks of suffering with ulcers of the stomach, she died at 7:20 A.M. Wednesday, July 2. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church Saturday morning, July 5. Requiem high mass was sung by Rev. Joseph Neppl. She was an estimable woman, held in high regard by the entire community. She was a member of St. Joseph's church ever since this parish was started in Carroll. She was also a member of the Young Ladies Sodality and a charter member of Court St. Rose of Lima No. 6, Daughters of Isabella. The members of both societies attended the funeral in a body. Six of her brothers acted as pall bearers at the funeral. Besides her aged mother she is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mike, of Boone, John of Mitchell, S.D., Terrence of Kansas City, Mo., James, of Carroll, George at home, T.B. in Anthon, Iowa, E.J., of Sioux City, and Nellie, at home. Her father and a brother preceded her in death years ago and one sister, Mrs. F.J. Bromert, died January 28, 1919. The following relatives and friends besides those named attended the funeral: Mrs. T.B. O'Donnell and children, of Anthon, Mrs. E.J. O'Donnell, of Sioux City, Martin O'Donnell, of Boone, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. McAndrews of Sterling, Ill., Mrs. Richard Novak, of Omaha, Miss Margaret Egan, of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Thomas Cusack, of Missouri Valley, Mrs. Otto Pound, of Vail and Miss Nellie Riley, of Boone.
