Description	:	George Ray Ellis, was born on July 31st, 1927 to James and Dora Ellis in Ottumwa, Iowa. He grew up in Ottumwa with his two brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, then came home and married his sweetheart Lorraine on July 7, 1950. George and Lorraine also made their home in Ottumwa, raising five children and working at the John Morrell plant. Read More	George Ray Ellis, was born on July 31st, 1927 to James and Dora Ellis in Ottumwa, Iowa. He grew up in Ottumwa with his two brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, then came home and married his sweetheart Lorraine on July 7, 1950. George and Lorraine also made their home in Ottumwa, raising five children and working at the John Morrell plant. In 1973 they moved most of the family to Sioux Falls, SD where George continued working at John Morrell, and was a union steward. After retiring from Morrell's, George worked for Sunshine Food Store for several years. He also helped his family, friends, and his church with any jobs they needed done. George and Lorraine were longtime members of Eastside Baptist Church where George served as a deacon, usher, member of the choir, and greeter among other rolls. George was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Maxine, Dale, CE and Willa, and his beloved wife, Lorraine. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Dennis and Cindy, Doug and Celeste, Dan and Char, Jody and Carrie, and Darci and John, Along with 13 grandchildren and 8 and a half great grandchildren, and his faithful dog Sandy. We are grateful for his life, his smile, his kindness, his singing, his puzzling, his whistling, his wisdom, his sunny outlook, his strength, and his unfailing love…. Special thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff at the Avera Heart Hospital for the outstanding care they provided to George and our family. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Friday, October 1, 2021 at Eastside Baptist Church, 6101 E 49th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57110. Visitation will 5:00 - 7:00 pm Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Heritage Funeral Home, 4800 S. Minnesota Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57108 with family present to greet friends. - Heritage Funeral Home
