She was born July 23, 1921 in Mercer, Missouri to James Wilford and Dora Ellen Johnston Ellis. She married Dwight A. Wilbanks. He died April 12, 1945. She later married Lambert C. Burkhalter on June 10, 1946. She lived in Ottumwa until 1971, when she and her husband moved to Des Moines, and then to Mesa, Arizona in 1981, and returned to Ottumwa in 1998. Burkhalter, 77, of Good Samaritan Center, died at 11:30 AM, June 23, 1999, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. She was born July 23, 1921 in Mercer, Missouri to James Wilford and Dora Ellen Johnston Ellis. She married Dwight A. Wilbanks. He died April 12, 1945. She later married Lambert C. Burkhalter on June 10, 1946. She lived in Ottumwa until 1971, when she and her husband moved to Des Moines, and then to Mesa, Arizona in 1981, and returned to Ottumwa in 1998. She was a member of Davis Street Christian Church in Ottumwa, First Christian Church in Mesa, Arizona, a 50 year member of Rose Chapter #552 Order of Eastern Star, a member of Social Order of Beauceants #9, and Daughters of the Nile. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Robert D. Wilbanks of Marion and Gerald Lee Burkhalter of Humble, Texas; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, C.E. and George Ellis of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and a sister, Willadene Thompson of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by a brother Dale Ellis. The service will be 3:30 PM Saturday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, the Rev. Terry Halstead of Davis Street Christian Church officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Burial of cremains will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Friday with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Good Samaritan Center.
