Description	:	George T. Cowan died at his home in Grant street, Houston, this morning, October 4, at 7:30, after an illness extending over many months. Mr. Cowan was a son of George W. and Julia Cowan, deceased, and was born near Thompsonville, Peters township, in February, 1849. While he was still a small boy the family removed to Canonsburg. Cowan died at his home in Grant street, Houston, this morning, October 4, at 7:30, after an illness extending over many months. Mr. Cowan was a son of George W. and Julia Cowan, deceased, and was born near Thompsonville, Peters township, in February, 1849. While he was still a small boy the family removed to Canonsburg. After a few years another change was made, this time to the Little Chartiers creek valley in Chartiers township. In early manhood Mr. Cowan was married to Miss Margaret Wylie. About 30 years ago Mr. Cowan and family removed to Houston, where they have since resided. Mrs. Cowan died some three years ago. Mr. Cowan is survived by two sons. Oscar and Archie, who reside in Houston, and by two daughters: Mary, wife of Marshall Jones of North Strabane township, and Miss Emma at home, also by one brother, Thomas H. Cowan of Canonsburg, and by the following sisters: Mrs. N. J. Scroggs of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Alice DeFrance of Youngstown, Ohio, and Mrs. Charles Case of Nebraska. Mr. Cowan was a carpenter by trade ,and a master workman. He erected nearly a dozen houses in Houston for himself, the majority of which he sold. He also was the contractor for a considerable number of residences. He was a member of the local lodge of the I. O. O. F. In politics he was a Democrat. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor, and a true friend, as the writer of this sketch, who knew him from boyhood, is competent to testify. Altho Mr: Cowan's sickness extended over a very considerable period of time ,and altho he knew for months that he could not recover his health, he was cheerful, kind and patient thru all; said that all was well, that he was ready and willing to go. The funeral services will be held at Mr. Cowan's late home on Wednesday at 2 p. m. and the interment will be made in the Oak Spring cemetery.
