MILES SUCCUMBED FRIDAY Died At Home Of His Daughter At Age Of Sixty-Seven BURIED IN ASBURY CEMETERY SUNDAY George Thomas Miles, one of Crisfield's best known and most beloved citizen, passed away on Friday last at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edwin Riggin, Jr., in the Mariner's section. He was sixty-seven years of age. Mr. Miles, the son of the late Fletcher Miles and Hettie Hickman Miles, was born in the neighborhood of Cash Corner, moving to Crisfield some forty years ago. Virtually his entire life was spent in the lower portion of Somerset county which he loved so well. In his younger days, before moving to Crisfield, Mr. Miles had engaged in farming but upon coming here he took up his occupation of hauling, and from that time on, covering a period of more than forty years, he continued in this occupation. Known and loved by people in all walks of life, Mr. Miles was a dear friend to everyone. His many sterling, and outstanding traits of character were widely known. He was ever cheerful and congenial, good-natured and good-hearted and be will be sadly missed by all with whom he came into contact. Besides his widow, Mrs. Belle Miles, he is survived by two children, Mrs. Heddie Miles Tyler, and Mrs. Elva Miles Riggin, and six grandchildren, Mrs. Olga Henderson, of Marumsco, Miles Tyler, Brice Tyler, Jerry Tyler, and Edwin Riggin, 3rd, of this city, and Floyd Elwood Miles, of Upper Darby, Pa. A brother, John S. Miles, of Sabillasville, Md., also survives. Funeral services were held from the Mariner's Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon at 2.00 o'clock with the Rev. Robert H. Wilson, pastor, officiating. Rev. Wilson was assisted by the Rev. Horace J. Lewis. Interment was in Asbury cemetery. Pall-bearers included W. Edwin Riggin, Morris Milbourne, Harry Parks, William Sinclair, Lionell Evans and Charles Howeth. The Crisfield Times, Crisfield, Maryland, Friday, November 14, 1941, p. 3
