DOAK George W. Doak, 76, died at his home on Seventh and Matthews, Sunday evening, after an illness of a little more than a year. Mr. Doak had been a resident of Cloud county for about fifty-four years. Paralysis caused his death. George W. Doak was born in Virginia in 1849. His paternal grandparents came from Ireland, where his father, Hiram Doak, was born. He came to Kansas in 1869, and first settled in Osage county ,and with his brother, Nathan Doak, who was in the employ of the government, he assisted in moving the Sac and Fox Indians to the Creek reservation. In 1871 he filed on a homestead in Cloud county. The first few years there he lived in a dugout, living chiefly on game, and enduring the hardships the pioneers encountered. This homestead was in Arion township, and he lived there until taking up his residence in Concordia twelve years ago. In 1876 Mr. Doak was married to Alice E. Dotson, daughter of a family of old settlers. There were three children born to Mr. and Mrs. Doak, all of whom survive their father. They are Watt V. of Stockton, Kansas; Mrs. Daisy J. Cooper of Plainville, Kansas; and Mrs. Nellie Steele of Glasco. Mr. Doak served as trustee of his township for several years, and also was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge here. Besides his wife and three children he leaves one brother, Waitman, of Woodston, Kansas; and eleven grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. A.R. Moore of Kansas City, a brother-in-law of Mr. Doak, in charge. Burial was in Macyville cemetery. -----Daily Blade
