Airy wife of Mrs. Lela Mae Atkins Jones passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Jones was born September 2, 1926 in Alamance County, NC to the late William A. and Margaret Beulah Holmes Jones. He was retired from the US Army having served 35 years. Mr. Jones was born September 2, 1926 in Alamance County, NC to the late William A. and Margaret Beulah Holmes Jones. He was retired from the US Army having served 35 years. Mr. Jones was a member of White Plains Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Lela Mae Jones of the home, three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Ruth and Zane G. Goins, Mt. Airy, NC, Kay J. and Gary Surratt, Lambsburg, VA, and Rachel J. Barker, Mt. Airy, NC. two sons and daughter-in-law, Rev. George Jr. Jones, Mt. Airy and Ricky and Candy Lovill Jones, Mt. Airy, three granddaughters, one grandson, four great granddaughters, three great grandsons, and one great great grandson, a sister, Betty Flynn, Mebane, NC, Brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Polly Jones, Florida, several nieces and nephews, two special sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Jones and sister, Marie Atkins, mother in law and father-in law, Fred and Mandy Sawyers. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, February 25, 2012 at White Plains Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Bill Tucker, Rev. Darrell Price and Rev. Butch Holder. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Friday at White Plains Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to White Plains Christian School, 614 Old Hwy. 601, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. . Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
