From Eureka Herald 1 July 1929 page 1 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx George Washington Miller, son of Jacob and Lydia Miller was born in Delaware County, Ohio, on March 31, 1852, In September 1868 he moved with his parents to Gentry County, Missouri, and in 1871 to southwestern Missouri. August 3, 1871, he was married to Tennessee Hale, in Green County, Missouri. To this union nine children were born. Three have been called to their future reward, Eva, who died at the age of 16 years, Freddy who died in 1884, and Minta the youngest who died in 1902 at the age of 14. The remaining six; Mrs. Elizabeth Moran, of Eureka, Kansas; Mrs. Alice McNeil, of Eureka, Kansas; Mrs. Gertrude Kimball, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Mrs. Pearl Reeves, of Hopkinton, Iowa; George L. Miller, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Millard Miller, of Denver, Colorado, remains with the mother and wife to mourn the loss. Mr. and Mrs. Miller lived in Green County, Missouri, until 1879, when they moved to Kansas, settling on a farm near Eureka, which was the home until 1902 when they moved into Eureka and there lived until his death June 29, 1929, he has reached the age of 77 years, 2 months and 29 days. Mr. Miller made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 17 years and united with a Baptist Church in Northern Missouri. April 28, 1907, he transferred his membership to the Elm Street Baptist Church in Eureka where he was a faithful member until the time of his death. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He had six brothers and two sisters. Three brothers, J.W. Miller, P.W. Miller, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Bower preceded into a future life. Three brothers, S.W. Miller, of Neodesha, Kansas, D.W. Miller, of Neal, Kansas; F.W. Miller, of near Eureka, and one sister, Mrs. Callie Gibson, of Toronto, Kansas, remain to mourn his loss. In addition, there are 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Mr. Miller was a good Christian man of sterling qualities and fine morals and will be well remembered by all who knew him. Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 1, 1929, at the Elm Street Baptist Church, by Rev. A.M. Horan, pastor, assisted by Rev. L.T. Faulder, of the Christian Church.
