Read More	Greene Recorder, The (Greene, Iowa) > 1973 > May > 30 Rites held for George Stewart Mr. George Stewart was born Jan. 20, 1893 to Robert and Margaret Kephart Stewart of Bristow, where he grew up in the Butler Co. community and went to Bristow School. On Sept. 16, 1913, he married Vera Knoll and to this union 6 children were born. In 1919 they moved to a farm near Bristow where they farmed until 1934 at which time they moved into the town of Bristow and in 1937 stated work at the local locker plant. He continued to work in the butchering trade until 1970 when he suffered a stroke and quit the steady job, although he kept busy doing odd jobs and worked in the meat market when his health allowed. Mr. Stewart suffered a stroke while working in his yard on Mon. April 23, and was taken to Franklin General Hospital where he passed away Sat. morning, April 28. He was affiliated with the United Brethren Church of Bristow, now called United Methodist, and did whatever he could to help out when needed. Survivors include his wife, Vera of Bristow; 4 children, George of Ackley, Mrs. Harry (Betty) Card of Hampton, Orville of Greene and Mrs. Dorothy Gibson of Greene, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Charles of DeWitt and Robert of Lake Preston, S.D.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Earl (Nellie) Hemmingson of Pleasant Valley and Mrs. Carrie Merfield of Bristow. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, one son, Glenn, and one daughter, Darlene; 2 great grandchildren Tina Reams and Jason Fiddick. A time of fellowship for friends and relatives was held in the church basement following the committal service.
