Knapp died at Los Angeles, California, on February 9th, after only an illness of but twenty-four hours, according to a message received by his son S H Knapp of this city. The burial is to be held Wednesday from the Soldiers Home, according to his wish. George W Knapp was born in New York state, was for many years a Clyde, Kansas resident, where he located in 1878, having first lived in Riley county. He was a member of Company G, 11th Kansas Cavalry, during the Civil War. While at Clyde, he was engaged in the livery and transfer business. In 1887 he was elected to the Legislature and in 1890 he was chosen Postmaster of Clyde. In 1894, he moved to Kansas City, Kansas where he transacted an extensive real estate and transfer business and for four year was engaged in the newspaper business and was active in politics. He was a delegate to the Republican convention in Wichita, Kansas; in 1902. From 1909 to 1911 he made his home with his son S H Knapp in Clyde and then removed to California where he has since resided. One son Howard L resides at Los Angeles and he with Sid H Knapp alone survive. Geo W Knapp was a member of the Masonic order at Clyde and still holds his membership there. It is expected that the body will later be brought to Clyde for interment beside his wife who died several years ago.
