Description	:	The McPherson (KS) Weekly Republican, Friday, Apr 5, 1918 George Willis Greenwood, born January 6, 1863; died March 22, 1918. The deceased was born in Adair County, Illinois, where he remained until the age of 7 years, he being the only child born to his parents. His father enlisted and lost his life while serving in the Civil war. His mother was later married to John Hill and died when Mr. Greenwood was 7 years old. Read More	The McPherson (KS) Weekly Republican, Friday, Apr 5, 1918 George Willis Greenwood, born January 6, 1863; died March 22, 1918. The deceased was born in Adair County, Illinois, where he remained until the age of 7 years, he being the only child born to his parents. His father enlisted and lost his life while serving in the Civil war. His mother was later married to John Hill and died when Mr. Greenwood was 7 years old. To this latter union two children, Harve and Irene Hill, were born. In 1870 he and his stepfather came to Kansas and located on a farm near Lindsborg where Mr. Greenwood grew to manhood. He was married to Armilla J. Coats, December 25, 1883. To this union three children were born: Mrs. Edith Heintzleman, Mrs. Lotia Mullen and Mr. Wilbur Greenwood, all of whom reside in this vicinity. Mr. Greenwoods parents both died when he was very young, practically throwing him upon his own resources to fight the battles of life when but a boy, and to endure all the hardships that sometimes befall a parentless child. He was a successful farmer and spent the greater part of his lifetime farming in this vicinity. He united with the M. E. church in Canton in 1896. He was called away very suddenly, having no warning of the approaching illness that was to end his life's work. He retired at night without any ill feeling whatever, but never awoke from his peaceful slumbers. Funeral services were conducted at the M. E. church by Rev. Wells, Sunday, March 24, at 2 o'clock p. m. and interment was in the Canton cemetery.
