Read More	GEORGE TOWLE George was a rural mail carrier in the area of Wakefield, Ks. He had many interests and hobbies, some becoming small business interests. He had an interest in rocks, studying them and polishing them. This developed into his rock shop which he maintained for many years. For years, he repaired TV sets in the area. He had a printing press which he used to fill orders for printed materials in the community. He was a ham radio operator and was always glad to lend a hand in delivering messages, as far away as Japan to a young man from Wakefield or during the flood of 1951. As a youngster, he built the first crystal set in Wakefield that picked up radio programs. He had put electricity in his family's home when he was in the 8th grade. He enjoyed taking pictures of Wakefield residents, developing them himself. These have been given to the Wakefield Historical Society. In his younger days he entertained groups as a ventriloquist with his "pal" he named Jerry. George lived a frugal life himself and yet was a very generous person. His support of the Boy Scouts was a life long commitment. After his father's first stroke, his parents lacked for nothing. There was no fan-fare, bills were paid and supplies arrived. He was very generous to nieces and nephews. He had a name for everyone and never forgot the name he had given them. He and his wife, Ada, enjoyed vacationing in Minnesota every summer, pulling their trailer, and enjoying the company of other couples who made that same trip every summer. He was a very honest, dependable, likable individual. .
