Read More	Publication: The Anamosa Journal Date: February 4, 1 952 Page 3 City: Anamosa State: Iowa Country: United States of America Funeral Tuesday For Wyoming Boy Killed Thursday Gerald Rickels Dies Of Accidental Gunshot Wound on Hunting Trip WYOMING—Funeral service will be held this Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 5, at Wayne Lutheran church for Gerald Rickels, 11, who died Thursday, Jan. 31, of a gunshot wound. He was the son of Mr, and Mrs. Clarence Rickels. Tragic incident occurred at 6 p.m. when Gerald and his hunting mate, Rodney Walters, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Walters, were near the bridge on West Main street. Twenty gauge shotgun carried by Rodney accidentally discharged. The pellets struck Gerald in the stomach. He died a short time later at Mercy hospital, Anamosa. Inquest Held. Howard Campbell, Olin, Jones county coroner, held an inquest Friday evening at Wyoming. Jury ruled the death accidental. Jurors were Robert Alden, Ralph Orth, Frank Frank Harrington. Testifying at the inquest were Dr. Edward A . Rogers, jr., Anamosa, and Lewis Dreibelbis, Jones county sheriff. Officials report the boys had been hunting pigeons. In charge of the service Tuesday will be Rev. H. F. Kehren, Wayne church pastor. Harrington funeral home, Wyoming, is arranging the service. Biography Told Gerald Rickels, the sixth child, was born July 14, 1940, at Iowa City. His parents were residents of Anamosa at the time. They moved to Wyoming in March, 1951. Youth was a fifth grade pupil in the Wyoming independent schools. He attended the Lutheran Sunday school classes. In addition to his parents, Gerald Rickels is survived by eleven brothers and sisters: Mrs. Xelda Brokens, Monticello; Mrs. Juanita Mysak, Springville: Russell, Anamosa; Virgil, stationed at Camp Delmar, Oceanside, Calif;. Rex, Dolores, Donna, Roger, Merle, David and Darrell, all of Wyoming.
