Description	:	Gerhard “Herman” John Schepers was born November 14, 1852, in Twist, Germany when his father Bernard Herman Shepherd was 38 and his mother Anna Elisabeth Nijenstein was 28. Gearhart was a stowaway on a ship from Germany to America in 1867 (age 18) which landed in New Orleans, Louisiana. He settled in St. Louis, Missouri, where at age 27, on October 18, 1876, he became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. Read More	Gerhard “Herman” John Schepers was born November 14, 1852, in Twist, Germany when his father Bernard Herman Shepherd was 38 and his mother Anna Elisabeth Nijenstein was 28. Gearhart was a stowaway on a ship from Germany to America in 1867 (age 18) which landed in New Orleans, Louisiana. He settled in St. Louis, Missouri, where at age 27, on October 18, 1876, he became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. He moved to Carrollton, Illinois, where he met and married Catherine Walters in 1879 at age 29. They moved to Shelton, Nebraska, in 1887 and raised their children: Barney, Walter, Lizzie, Susie, and George. Their son Clarence died in infancy, and Herman's wife Catherine passed away from typhoid fever in 1899. Herman then married Fredrika Wilkes in 1900. Herman was member at the Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #99 A.F. & A.M. , the Shelton Board of Trustees, and the Shelton Cemetery Board. He passed away on May 16, 1944, at the age of 91, and is buried in the Shelton Cemetery.
