Schepers was born to Herman Schpers and Catherine Walters Schepers November 22, 1891, at Shelton in Buffalo County, Nebraska. He died September 2, 1979, at the Fillmore county hospital in Geneva, at the age of 87. George was one of six children in his family. Schepers was born to Herman Schpers and Catherine Walters Schepers November 22, 1891, at Shelton in Buffalo County, Nebraska. He died September 2, 1979, at the Fillmore county hospital in Geneva, at the age of 87. George was one of six children in his family. He was raised on a farm near Shelton and attended the country schools. At age 16, George moved to Lincoln to work and learn the meat business. Later he moved to Crete to work in the meat business. It was there that he met Mable Shore, whom he married in Denver, Col., on September 30, 1911. To this union two sons were born. In 1913 they moved to Fairmont where George bought a meat market. George remained in the meat business in Fairmont for nearly 48 years. He participated in several other business ventures including auctioneering and custom harvesting. George continued to enjoy hard physical work even after his retirement. He grew to find special joy in his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During his many years in the community, George was a participant in many civic activities. He served on the fire department, the school board, and the city council. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, and his wife. He is survived by his two sons, Stuart and his wife Adelia of Shelton; Francis and his wife, Teresa of Fairmont; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, at the Fairmont Community church in Fairmont. The Reverend Jay Vetter presided at the service. Pallbearers included Stanley L., Steven D., Timothy B., James S., Kenneth L., and Mark A. Schepers. Interment was in the Fairmont cemetery.
