He died on December 16, 1945, in Callaway, Nebraska, at the age of 65. Barney Schepers, 65, Dies Sunday About Noon at Callaway Funeral rites were held in the Methodist church here Wednesday for Barney Schepers, 65, long time resident of this community, who died Sunday about noon at Callaway where he had been living for a few months. He had been in poor health for several years and moved from Shelton to a farm near Oconto last spring. Later his condition became critical and he went to Calloway where he could be given better care. Barney was a son of Herman and Catherine Schepers and was born in Carrollton, Illinois, on September 27, 1880. When he was five years of age his parents came to Shelton and located on the farm north of town where he grew to manhood. When a young man, he went to Wyoming and proved up on a 160-acre homestead. It was there he met Mrs. Edith Conn, a widow, who had also taken a homestead and they were married in Hot Springs, South Dakota, on June 16, 1913, when Barney was 33 and Edith was 30. After spending five years in Wyoming they came to Shelton and with the exception of several years at Callaway and Anselmo, they resided here continuously until last spring. Mr. Schepers operated a dairy business here for a number of years. Survivors are his wife Edith, one daughter Margaret Hall of Lexington, one son PFC Ralph Schepers stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, a step-daughter Cecil Savidge of Callaway, and four grandchildren. Barney Schepers was a member of the Masonic Lodge #99 A.F. & A.M. Last rites were held at the Methodist Church Wednesday at 2:30 with the Rev. E. G. Staley officiating. Burial was in the Shelton Cemetery with members of the Masonic Lodge in charge of the services at the grave. The Masons served as casket bearers.
