Read More	-- -- OBITUARY -- Gertrude Gerken was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gerken at West Point, Nebr., on April 8, 1870, and departed this life at Sacred Heart Hospital at Yankton, S.D., on Friday, Oct. 9, 1931 at the age of 61 years, 6 months and 1 day. She was united in marriage to Frank Maly on April 23, 1894 and to this union were born nine children; Joseph, of Crofton, Elizabeth, now Sister Bernadette of Sioux City, Conrad, who died on Dec. 24, 1910, Matilda, Mrs. John Sudbeck of Crofton, and Fred, Coletta, Marian, Hillard and Richard at home. Mr. Maly preceded her to the great beyond in the spring of 1920, just after the family had moved from West Point to their present home. Mrs. Maly was a noble Christian woman, always a great worker in her church and a very devoted mother to her family. Her memory will always be a source of comfort to all those who had the priviledge of being numbered among her many friends and neighbors. Mrs. Maly was taken seriously sick on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and was taken to the Yankton hospital. Here she submitted to an operation the following Saturday. She seemed to be getting along as well as could be expected until last Thursday night when relatives were called and she passed to her reward the next forenoon. Besides her children she leaves five sisters and four brothers to mourn her loss; Mrs. Christine Ellis of Norfolk, Nebr., Sister Hyacinth, Clyde, Mo., Mrs. Leo Casey, Spencer, Nebr., Mrs. John Haas, Fordyce, Neb., and Mrs. P. H. Lammers, Hartington, Nebr. The brothers are Conrad and Charles Gerken of West Point, Nebr., and Fred and William of Dallas, S.D. Her parents and three brothers have preceded her in death. All her children were present at the funeral and also all the sisters and brothers with the exception of Sister Hyacinth. Other out of town relatives here for the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. John Maly of Creighton, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs. Wenzel Maly, Mr. and Mrs. William Maly and family, Mr. and Mrs. Caspar Hagedorn and son Henry, Mrs. Charles Kaup, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Spenner and sons, all from West Point, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schrage and daughters from Howells, Nebr., and Mrs. Joe Scharfen and children of Osmond, Nebr. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:30, at the St. Rose Catholic Church at Crofton, with Rev. Father Bosheck officiating. Interment was made beside her husband in the Crofton cemetery.
