Description	:	Gilbert Christian Berg, 74, passed away Wednesday night, January 14, 1960, at Fargo. Funeral rites were held Monday, January 14, 1960 in Valley City, ND. He has been in failing health for the past weeks, and had one leg amputated when a blood clot formed a few weeks ago. He recovered from the operation, but did not get his strength back. Read More	Gilbert Christian Berg, 74, passed away Wednesday night, January 14, 1960, at Fargo. Funeral rites were held Monday, January 14, 1960 in Valley City, ND. He has been in failing health for the past weeks, and had one leg amputated when a blood clot formed a few weeks ago. He recovered from the operation, but did not get his strength back. He has been making his home at the Fargo Nursing Home for the past few months. He came to this community in 1896-97 and worked as a laborer for a while; then he worked on building the Casselton-Marion branch line of the N.P. Railroad, and later started farming, continuing farming most of his life, except for recent years when some time was spent in Washington state. Gilbert Christian Berg was born on October 3, 1878, in Black Brook Township, Polk County, Wisconsin. Gilbert Berg and Helga Brox were united in marriage February 11, 1899, at a farm home about a mile from St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Svea Township. Nine children were born to this union: Bertha, Mrs. Leonard Boyer, Buxton, ND; Alice, Mrs. Theo. Wheeler, Buxton, ND; Leonard, Litchville, ND; Clifford, Perley, MN; Albert H., Litchville, ND; Elmer M., Staples, MN; Anne, Mrs. Ralph Hunt, Yakima, WA; Helen, Mrs. Bert Manns, Ypsilanti, N D. and Fred, Fort Meade, SD. He also leaves two sisters: Mrs. Lena Johnson, Minneapolis, MN and Mrs. Minnie Framstad, Amery, WI and one brother, Elmer, Stockton, CA; 36 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Berg passed away on January 5, 1954. Rev. Arthur Jothen conducted the funeral services Monday at 2 p.m. at Oliver's Chapel. Mrs. Richard Burd of Minot was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Bromberger. Pallbearers were six grandsons: Larry Berg, Warren Berg, David Wheeler, Tom Manns, Vernon Berg and Kenneth Berg. Monday was a rather stormy day with poor driving visibility, but many folks attended the funeral services. Coming from a distance to attend the funeral were: Mrs. and Mrs. Leonard Boyer, Buxton, ND; Mrs. Harley Nash, Hatton, ND; Mr. And Mrs. Theo. Wheeler, Buxton, ND; Mr. and Mrs. David Wheeler, Mayville, ND; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Berg, Staples, MN; Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Berg, Perley, MN; Rev. and Mrs. Norman Winkelman, Bowbells, ND; Supt. Robert Wheeler, Rhame, ND and John Blake, Motley, MN and perhaps others we may have missed. Burial: Bethlehem Cemetery Rosebud Township Barnes County North Dakota, USA Published in The Litchville Bulletin, Litchville, ND cJanuary 23, 1960.
