Description	:	Gilbert Grandon Emry, eldest son of Sarah E. (Swain) and Richard Alson Emry, was born near Pleasant Plains, Iowa, March 24, 1875. Here he was educated in the public schools of Iowa, and later Nebraska, and was graduated from the Madison, Nebraska, High School. His early life is part of the tradition of the old west. Returning to Nebraska, he taught... Read More	Gilbert Grandon Emry, eldest son of Sarah E. (Swain) and Richard Alson Emry, was born near Pleasant Plains, Iowa, March 24, 1875. Here he was educated in the public schools of Iowa, and later Nebraska, and was graduated from the Madison, Nebraska, High School. His early life is part of the tradition of the old west. During early manhood he was at one time employee of the Cody Ranch at North Platte, Nebraska, and later worked in the sawmills and mines of the Black Hills of South Dakota, and in the oil fields in Wyoming. Returning to Nebraska, he taught school for years. June 18, 1901, he and Maude Sylberta Fletcher were united in marriage in Loup City, Nebraska. To this union were born three sons and six daughters: Merle James Emry of Central City, Nebraska; Mrs Iver (Mamie) Erickson of Comstock; Ervon G. Emry of Benson, Arizona; John J. Emry, who preceded him in death in 1927; Mrs Theodore (Berta) Kronberg of Loomis, Nebraska; Mrs Elmer (Marguerite) Peterson of Arcadia, Nebraska; Mrs Wm. (Elna) Galloway of Chadron, Nebraska; Mrs Virgil (Catherine) Phelps of Central City, Nebraska; and Mrs Ali (Audrey) Anderson of Chadron, Nebraska. He also leaves to mourn his loss four living brothers and one sister, as well as twenty-two grand children and two great grand children. He was stricken with paralysis the morning of October 27, of the current year, and slipped away into rest November 6, 1950, at the age of 75 years, 7 months, and 15 days. Not begrudging his rest, there are many who will mourn his passing. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Comstock at one o'clock in the afternoon last Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Harry D???, pastor of the Wescott church. Singers were Mrs Ruby Higgins and Mrs Zona Fisher, accompanied by Mrs Jamie Riddle. Pallbearers were Frank Visek, Anton Tvrdik, Malon Granger, Wayne Lewin, Ludvik Visek and August Bartu.
