Description	:	Gladys Ahlers, age 85, of O’Neill, Nebraska, passed away Monday afternoon, January 18, 2010 at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill. She was born May 26, 1924 in Boyd County, southwest of Naper, the daughter of Claus and Olida (Klug) Sieh. Gladys was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jamison, Nebraska. She later joined Zion Lutheran Church at Naper which later became St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Gladys attended a one room country school southwest of Naper and then Butte High School. Read More	Gladys Ahlers, age 85, of O’Neill, Nebraska, passed away Monday afternoon, January 18, 2010 at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill. She was born May 26, 1924 in Boyd County, southwest of Naper, the daughter of Claus and Olida (Klug) Sieh. Gladys was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jamison, Nebraska. She later joined Zion Lutheran Church at Naper which later became St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Gladys attended a one room country school southwest of Naper and then Butte High School. She taught school for 2 years before her marriage to Laurence Ahlers May 26,1943 at her parents home near Naper. The couple moved to Minnesota living on farms at Gibbon and Sleep Eye. To this union three children were born; Leroy, Larry and Rita. They returned to Nebraska in 1946 and lived on a farm between Butte and Naper before purchasing their farm at Naper. Her pastimes were spent reading, embroidering, crocheting, sewing, playing cards, and walking everyday. They moved to Denver where she worked part time at the May D & F Department store. In 1964 they moved back to Naper. Gladys attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, holding various offices in the Ladies Aid, teaching Sunday School and singing in the church choir. Gladys worked in the Naper Public School Title I Program and Pete’s Café. She was a member of the Boyd County Extension Club. In 1986 they retired and moved to Gordon, Nebraska. She was a member of the Garden Club and did volunteer work at the hospital and nursing home before moving to O’Neill in 1991. Gladys continued to be busy helping out at the Lutheran Church, activities at the Nursing Home and delivering Meals on Wheels. She is survived by: husband, Laurence; sons, Leroy Ahlers and his wife, Susan, and Larry Ahlers and his wife, Gladys; daughter, Rita Keller and her husband, Tim; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Ahlers and Violet Stahlecker; brothers, Raymond Sieh and Claus Sieh Jr. She was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Harold Sieh; and sister, Vera Schonefeld. Funeral Services on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Christ Lutheran Church in O’Neill. Graveside services Saturday afternoon at the Lutheran Cemetery in Naper, Nebraska.
