Description	:	Laurence Ahlers, age 90, of O’Neill, Nebraska, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 17, 2010, at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill. He was born September 26, 1919 in Gregory County, South Dakota to August and Anna (Seevers) Ahlers. Laurence was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Naper, Nebraska. Read More	Laurence Ahlers, age 90, of O’Neill, Nebraska, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 17, 2010, at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill. He was born September 26, 1919 in Gregory County, South Dakota to August and Anna (Seevers) Ahlers. Laurence was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Naper, Nebraska. He attended school in a one room country schoolhouse across the state line near Naper. On May 26, 1943 he married Gladys Sieh in Naper. To this union 3 children were born. They moved to Minnesota where he farmed with his father at Gibbon and later at Sleepy Eye, Minnesota before returning to Nebraska where he farmed. Laurence was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Naper and held various offices there. He was the overseer of the Lutheran Cemetery at Naper for a number of years. He was a charter member of the Volunteer Rural Fire Department of Naper, and served on the school board and the county election board. In 1960 they moved to Denver, Colorado where Laurence worked for Montgomery Ward and several filling stations before owning and operating Larry’s Mobil. Upon moving back to Naper in 1964, he farmed and did some trucking and driving the Naper School Bus. In 1986 they moved to Gordon, Nebraska, where he helped his son in Roy’s True Value and retired in O’Neill in 1991. He is survived by: sons, Leroy Ahlers and his wife, Susan, Larry Ahlers and his wife, Gladys; daughter, Rita Keller and her husband, Tim; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Walter Ahlers, Wayne Ahlers and Arlen Ahlers. He was preceded in death by: parents; wife, Gladys; and one sister. Funeral services on Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in O’Neill. Graveside services Saturday afternoon at the Lutheran Cemetery at Naper, Nebraska. Obituary information from Biglin's Mortuary of O'Neill, Nebraska.
