Hining, 71, of Fairfield, died at 10:15 a.m. Sept. 4, 1987, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was born Sept. 23, 1915, in Floris to Joseph Newton and Edna Mara Swaim Hining. He attended Packwood and Fairfield schools, and lived in the Fairfield community most of his life. He was employed as a welder leadman at Acco-Louden for 27 years, until his retirement in May 1981. He was an Army veteran, and was a member of Clonton Masonic Lodge 15, American Legion Post 47, Royal Arch Masons of Iowa, KAABA Shrine, Davenport Consistory Club, Malta Commandery of Ottumwa, Ottumwa Shrine Club, Fairfield Shrine Club, Star of Bethlehem Shrine 44 of Fairfield, and a charter member of the Ottumwa Consistory club. He had received a 35-year pin of the International Association of Machinists, for which he had served as financial secretary for several years. He married Lucile B. Lewis April 11, 1942, in Princeton, Mo. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Glenda Egli of Columbus Junction; two grandchildren; a brother, Arden of Fairfield; and two sisters, Marie Barkley of Ottumwa, and Lelah McKee of Aplington. Services are tentatively set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Cancer Research Fund or Shriner's Crippled Childrens Hospital.
