Swails for many years identified with the Vogue Clothing Store in Geneva, as employee and owner, passed away Thursday morning, October 2, 1952, at his home in Geneva. Mr. Swails who had suffered several years with ah heart condition, became ill Wednesday night after being up and about during the day. His condition became worse early last Thursday morning, death following a heart attack. Golie D. Swails, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John C. Swails of Geneva, was born September 8, 1900, at Geneva. He attended the Geneva public schools, graduating from Geneva high school in 1919. May 2, 1927, he was married to Marguerite Hourigan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hourigan of Geneva. To this union one son, John Charles, was born. Mrs. Swails passed away January 19, 1944. Shortly after his marriage, Mr. Swails took employment with the late T. B. Moore, owner of the Vogue Clothing Store. He continued as clerk in the store 17 years, until March, 1945, when he purchased a half interest in the business. In January, 1948, he purchased the interest of Mrs. T. B. Moore in the business, and continued as sole owner of the store until his death. November 3, 1947, he married Mrs. Leona Bumgarner Eppler of Geneva. The couple and their children continued to make their home in Geneva, Mrs. Swails assisting her husband in his work at the store during recent years when his health was failing. Mr. Swails, who participated in athletics in high school, always was a booster for high school and city athletic activities, and his interest in sports was carried over into an interest in the young people of the community. In addition to his widow, his son and stepdaughter Lu Ann; he is survived by one brother, L. O. Swails of Geneva; a nephew, Forrest Swails of Batesville, Ark.; and a niece, Mrs. John Freeman of Geneva. Funeral services were held Saturday morning, October 4, at 9:30 o’clock at St. Joseph Church in Geneva. Rev. Paul Ulenberg officiating. Pallbearers were Joseph Bixby Jr., Paul Emery, Thomas Ewalt, John Koehler, Carl Schneider, all of Geneva; and Maurice Shickley of North Platte. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery.
