Description	:	SWAILS, PEARL—Miss Pearl Swails, daughter of Mrs. John Swails, passed away at her home in Geneva, Neb., the evening of Wednesday, May 2, 1934. Miss Swails was born at Martland, Neb., September 4, 1889. Her home was in or near Geneva most of her life. Read More	SWAILS, PEARL—Miss Pearl Swails, daughter of Mrs. John Swails, passed away at her home in Geneva, Neb., the evening of Wednesday, May 2, 1934. Miss Swails was born at Martland, Neb., September 4, 1889. Her home was in or near Geneva most of her life. She taught twenty-six years, all of that period in Fillmore County, except one year spent in the schools at University Place. The first four years she taught country schools. She taught three years at Shickley, one year at University Place and eighteen years in the Geneva city schools, most of the time in charge of the eighth grade. Miss Swails was an educational expert. Her pupils ranked high. Their work was outstanding in county spelling contests and in other educational test. Her health had been affected for some time, but she was able to continue her school work to the end of the week preceding her death. On Monday of last week a cold prevented her taking up her usual school duties. The cold developed rapidly into an attack of pneumonia with fatal results. Miss Swails was preceded in death by her father, a brother and three sisters. Those surviving are her mother and three brothers, L. O. Swails, Golie Swails and Creston Swails. Miss Swails was a member of the Geneva Congregational Church. The funeral service was conducted at the home at 2:30 p.m. Friday by Rev. David Tudor of Cortland, former pastor of the Geneva Congregational church. The city schools were closed for the afternoon. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 10 May 1934 front page.
